Hi there! We are edenspiekermann, an independent, global design consultancy. We have a team of around 100 people across our offices in Berlin, Amsterdam and Los Angeles, including designers, developers, consultants, researchers, creatives and makers from around 20 different nations. We collaborate with international clients like nanoscent, ThePioneer, Bündnis 90/ Die Grünen, NZZ, and NS Prorail, Amsterdam.

We at edenspiekermann believe in a close collaboration between designers and developers. We’re looking for a Director of Development to support our team in Berlin. Leading and growing our team of frontend developers, consulting our clients, managing partners and selling technology in an inspiring way sounds like a party? Then we’re looking for you.

About the role:

This is a leadership role based in Berlin. As a member of the directors team you will be reporting directly to the management team. You will be responsible for growing the development team within the company and shaping our strategy when it comes to all things development: building and managing partnerships as well as client relationships, growing our development team members and defining our mode of collaboration. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading technology innovation and delivery for high profile clients
  • Client facing role involved from pitch to delivery
  • Setting the vision for clients to harness hard working technology alongside simple yet effective innovation
  • Building excellent client relationships and maintaining partnerships
  • Establishing strong and standardised setups with our partners
  • Winning the respect of the developers reporting to your role, from our internal team as well as from external partners
  • Managing a high-performing local team and inspiring them as somebody who can both help them develop and accelerate the transformation of the business
  • Expanding the scope of technology and transformation programs that edenspiekermann undertakes
  • Creating an environment that challenges traditional thinking, ensuring the company stays ahead of the competition and clients, whilst fostering a climate of trust and respect
  • Leading the project teams in the delivery of outstanding work 
  • Building first class digital products and consumer experiences
  • Delivering a multitude of technical solutions from eCommerce, Content Management through to system integration and apps
  • Attracting, building and retaining great talent

Skills and experience we’re looking for

  • 6-10 years experience with an engineering background
  • Experience in managing developer teams, internal and external
  • Deep understanding of technical project management and workflow
  • Content management system experience in implementation and integration
  • Proven ability to combine technologies in novel ways
  • Transformational leader, capable of driving change through an organisation whilst nurturing strong relationships in ambiguous and challenging situations
  • Passion and intense drive to be better and to be different
  • Highly creative with innovation in their DNA
  • Relentless focus on detail and quality
  • Strong consumer focus
  • Ability to leverage local market knowledge
